Sometime it's about nerve

Congrats on the new job! Change is nothing if not totally nerve wracking. I hope the transition is a smooth one.
It's so interesting how life folds out somewhere you didn't expect.
But I guess you were already qualified for this new exciting transition.
Big congrats again and sorry for the worries.
Although I had two big moves, my position and responsibility were much lighter so I didn't have to get worried as much as you do now.
Hope everything goes well!
You've had to make a far bigger move than I'm likely to. :-)
Good on ya! I went through a similar sitch (to San Francisco from AZ) and in retrospect I wish I would have just been able to completely recalibrate from the beginning to the things one needs to survive in cities like SF and NY and discard all the old comforts I thought were necessities where I came from. A car for instance is a huge albatross and money drain in such places but they're hard to give up when they've been soddered to your ass for so long. I stopped dining out and on the fly so much (tough to do in places where the food choices are one of the draws) and shopped at the dented can store. Had to deal with roommates etc....Anyway good luck. I've had two friends move to NYC, both with far less of a plan and twice as jittery as you sound and they're both still there and thriving 18 and 11 years later. Best thing they ever did they say

This makes me grateful that I didn't plan my move. Marrying 8300 miles from home with only what I had in my tourist backpack and then having the rest of my stuff destroyed in a flood while I was here has made things a lot simpler.

I have a hunch you are going to thrive.

Congrats on the move! Making big changes are always scary but I hope it works out.

This sounds terribly exciting!

I can't wait to hear what happens next.

I can't wait to hear what happens next either. If you find out before I do, please let me know.

Thanks to everyone for the encouragement. I really appreciate it. I think once I'm past this transition hump, it will be great. Part of my frustration is that I want to dig in and start working, but I'm dealing with apartments and movers. Oh, and it would certainly be easier if I had a trust fund.

breathe. just breathe. things work out when you do.

this will be a GREAT move for you in every respect.

it does get harder to make these moves as you get older, that is one good reason to be doing it.

Thanks. I've been thinking about the stress you went through moving to California, and how happy you found yourself there when you were finally settled.

Wow...I'm behind in my reading!

What big news. Congratulations on the move, the new job, etc.

I can only imagine how scary it must be, but you're going to be great and I can't wait to read about all of your adventures.

Good luck on the move! I know how you feel...I've done itse 3 times. Once you get settled then things will be great!
